The talent of Jan Hendrix encompasses a wide range of artistic media. Born in Maasbree, Holland in the year 1949, his formal education began at Ateliers 63 in Haarlem and was completed at Jan Van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht. As exploratory in his travels as in his creative expression, Hendrix spent the years between 1971 and 1976 in France, Portugal, Norway and Ireland. His first solo exhibition was held in 1975, and the group exhibitions in which he has participated literally span the globe. Since 1978, he has lived and worked in Mexico.
Hendrix’s talent has been recognized by numerous supporters in a variety of fields outside the visual arts, including architecture and literature. He has been the collaborator on architectural projects in which his modestly-scaled visions were made monumental, and has provided illustrations for books by such distinguished authors as Seamus Heaney, Gabriel García Marquez, Paolo Ruffilli and Bert Schierbeck. In 2005, he collaborated with W. G. Sebald on the first Spanish edition of After Nature.
