The renowned Croatian sculptor Mirko Ostoja was born in Dol, on the island of Brac on the 5th of February 1921. He attended elementary and high school in Split, later moving on the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the year 1937. He studied under F. Krsinic and R. Franges-Mihanovic. Following his graduation from the Academy, he pursued advance studies with Ivan Mestrovic. Between 1953 and 1968 he lived and worked in Sarajevo. Ostjoa also worked for a time in Split as a teacher at the School of Applied Art
